"Wait, they doesn't come from the sea?".

Yup, I'm growing luffa gourds, or at least trying to.

When I bought my packet of luffa seeds in the middle of this past winter, I had visions of luffa vines loaded with oodles of fruit, just waiting to be harvested. So far this has not been the case. It's been a wet summer with some lower temperatures, growth has been pretty slow. Apparently luffa plants like to take their sweet ass time, which would be fine if I lived in Texas, but in zone 5b time is not exactly on my side.
Currently one luffa is growing in the garden

Day 12

Yup, one lone luffa, but it appears to be growing a bit faster now. I've spent a few hours in the gourd patch locating female flowers. Some of the ladies look like they're maturing, others look like they're shriveling up, growing old before their time *sigh*

I'll keep digging around for info and hope for the best in the meantime...did I mention I've spotted  small patches powdery mildew on the zucchini and the penguin gourds? ack!
